How to spot a phishing job offer email

So, a friend of mine recently got a weird email from a staffing company. She is looking for a job, and has been applying everywhere. She knew that she had not applied at this particular job, and sent it to me, asking about it’s validity. I sent her the following reply back. Read on to see what to look for from suspicious emails.

From: “Saul Rock” <azovafijobydyfa@hotmail.com> <- Hotmail? Really?? Huge red flag. Email would come from 1st Premier Staffing email, like XXXXXXX@1stpremierstaffing.com

Hi Jane,

I am Saul, the hiring staffing assistant. I got your resume today,  <- Never sent a resume in

and I am excited to let you know that I think you are an awesome candidate.
Your previous job history is a huge plus. If you choose,

I would like to move you forward in the application process now!  <- He mentions your work history, but doesnt say exactly why its a huge plus. Basically a sign that he sent this to TONS of people and just changed the name.

The next step is to get your info over to Diane the hiring manager.
To avoid problems, she only views resumes that are viewable online.
To load your resume complete the instructions below:
1. Go to the our web site:

julmnt.com/application/  <- Weird website, no actual name. Sometimes that happens but again, its kinda weird.

(Copy and paste this link to your address bar if it is not clickable)
2. Next, enter your personal info and upload your resume.  <- I havent looked at the site, but I am sure that they ask for “PERSONAL” info like social security number and stuff. Thats a no no.
IMPORTANT! Each applicant is required to have a personal application
code in order to fill the application.
Your code is: RXShUG8J4  <- Making it sound legit, by telling you that you need to follow an important step. For their end, its to track you and your email. If you do it, they know this email is good, and will spam you.

Let me know when you finish the instructions.
If you don’t contact me by tomorrow I’ll assume that you are not interested
in the job, and I’ll go on to the next candidate.  <- If they really wanted you so badly, then why are they threatening to skip you so quickly. Basically they are telling you they dont care. Trying to get you to rush into it.
Jane, you’re a decent candidate for the job,  <- Why are you a decent candidate?? they are playing with your mind, making you feel good, but they dont say exactly why your a good candidate
but I will move on to the next candidate if I have to.  <- Again they are saying they dont care.
Saul
