Wow! I am excited! Google made an exciting announcement yesterday that I can scarcely believe! They have brought together 2 of my favorite Services, Google Voice and Gmail, creating a service that is extremely useful!! What is this service you ask? Free Phone calls! As of yesterday, if you have a Gmail account, a new option appeared under your your chat to “Call Phone”. This allows you make as many calls as you want to any phone number in the U.S. The implications are huge! This is only free till the end of 2010, then they will decide to keep it free or not. In my case, I’m excited, because this means that I can use it (if only for this year!) as my home phone. I can call as much as I want, and its free! Its like a gateway drug actually… lol anyways its free calls to the U.S. and Canada only for right now, and you have to pay for international calls. Its a sweet deal if you ask me! Now all I need is a nice headset for my computer, and I am set! I am looking at a wireless headset that supposedly works throughout the whole house, but I am not sure how true that is.

As you can see on the right, it’s not a bad looking headset. The only problem is that it is quite pricey, but I’m sure its got to be on ebay or amazon, at a substantially lower price.
My only complaint is that this is an awesome service for Google Apps, but as of right now, there is no timeline as to when Google Apps will be getting the calling service for Gmail. I promise to keep you updated as to when it becomes available for Google Apps because my boss will love it! Also the recent change to the contacts (which was extremely nescessary) hasnt been pushed to Google apps either, so when that is available I will also let you know.
So I hope this posts keeps you in the loop. Google is doing some good things out there (although they have 0 customer service!) and I cant wait to see what else comes out of those offices!
